LOCATION

BARCELONA

Today it is one of the most important and cosmopolitan cities in the world, internationally known for its cultural, financial, commercial and tourist importance.

Barcelona has hosted many worldwide events that have contributed to its high international profile, such as the Olympics of 1992 or the Universal Forum of Cultures in 2004.

It has one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean Sea and has excellent communications with France by the autopista del Mediterráneo motorway or high speed trains. The airport is also one of the busiest, with over 35 million passengers a year.

Barcelona offers visitors the chance to enjoy several places declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, such as La Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló or the Parc Güell among others, designed by Antonio Gaudí.

The more commercial area of the city is located in the old town, on streets such as Pelayo, Rambla or Plaza Catalunya, where small shops coexist with department stores or franchises. Further north from Plaza Cataluña are the Paseo de Gracia, Rambla de Catalunya and Diagonal, where you'll find international fashion brand stores. The designer items from the most autochthonous and alternative artists have their place among the streets of the Borne district.

The Cathedral of Barcelona is located in the historic centre, in Plaza de San Jaime, where the buildings of the Government of Catalonia and city hall are located. You can also enjoy the charm of the narrow streets of the Gótico, Raval and Borne neighbourhoods.

The historic centre and Las Ramblas are the most attractive and frequented areas. On Las Ramblas you will find small shops selling flowers or animals, kiosks, street performers, artists and many restaurants and cafes.

By walking along Las Ramblas you can also enjoy some of the most emblematic buildings of the city, such as the Liceo theatre or the Boqueria market. This famous walk ends in the old port of Barcelona where the statue of Christopher Columbus is located pointing towards the sea.

In the harbour there are various leisure areas, such as the aquarium, Imax cinema and maritime museum.

Some of the attractions added to the city in recent years have been its beaches, thanks to the regeneration of the coast due to the Olympic Games of 1992, providing the beaches with all kinds of services, entertainment and sports facilities, as well as excellent connections to the city centre.
